Hartley gets extension from Thrashers

ATLANTA, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- The Atlanta Thrashers Wednesday signed head coach Bob Hartley to a contract extension through the 2006-07 season.

He is about to enter his third season as the hockey team's head coach, having gotten the job in January of 2003. In his tenure, Atlanta has gone 52-56-13, including a franchise-best 33-37-8-4 in his first full season with the team in 2003-04.

"We feel that with Bob's leadership, professionalism and winning track record, he is the coach that will guide this team to success for many years to come," said Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. "We are pleased to have him leading our team and look forward to the future of the franchise with him behind the bench."

Hartley also has coached the Colorado Avalanche and has a career record of 245-174-61-6 in 480 games behind the bench.
