Mets third baseman NL Player of Week

NEW YORK, Aug. 29 (UPI) -- New York Mets third baseman David Wright Monday was named the National League's Player of the Week.

Wright hit .481 (13-for-27) with three home runs, five RBI, 10 runs scored and 25 total bases to help lead the Mets to five wins in seven games during a West Coast trip. He topped all NL players in hits, slugging percentage (.926), on-base percentage (.533) and total bases, while his 10 runs tied for the league lead.

The second-year slugger has a 10-game hitting streak going which has raised his season average to .314. He went 4-for-5 with two homers and scored four times in an 18-4 victory at Arizona on Aug. 24, and was 3- for-3 with four runs scored against the Diamondbacks one day earlier. He reached base all nine times over those two games.
