Mutombo, 38, had 4 points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.26 blocks per game last season.

"It's been a great off-season and we've added a lot of athleticism," said Houston Vice President of Basketball Operations Dennis Lindsay on Houston's Web site. "But a big part of who we are last year, we wanted to retain that. Dikembe was a big part of that. His shot-blocking, defensive presence, and unbelievable rebounding were a great part of our club."

The 7-foot-2 inch, 261-pound Mutombo has averaged 11.1 points, 11.2 rebounds and three blocks per game in his 13-year career and is a four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year. He has played for five different teams.

The Rockets obtained him from the Chicago Bulls last season in exchange for guards Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski and Mike Wilks.
