WASHINGTON, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Chris Woodward hit an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning Saturday night as the New York Mets edged Washington, 9-8.
Ramon Castro and David Wright each hit three-run homers and Jose Reyes added a two-run shot for the Mets, who have won four of their last five games and pulled within two games of Philadelphia for the top spot in the National League wild-card race.

In relief, winning pitcher Roberto Hernandez improved to 6-5.
Brian Schneider had three hits and four RBI for the Nationals, who have dropped four of five.
Washington, which nearly rallied from an 8-0 deficit, now trails Philadelphia by 1 1/2 games for the National League wild card.
Loser Gary Majewski fell to 2-3.
