MIAMI, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- A.J. Burnett extended his career-high winning streak to seven games Friday night as the Florida Marlins blanked Los Angeles, 3-0.
Burnett improved to 12-6, scattering six hits over eight-plus scoreless innings with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Former Dodger Paul Lo Duca hit a two-run single for the Marlins, who have won three in a row and moved into a tie with Philadelphia for second place in the National League wild-card standings, one-half game behind Houston.
Losing pitcher D.J. Houlton, who carried a perfect game into the fifth inning, fell to 4-7. He surrendered three runs and only three hits over 6 1/3 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.
Milton Bradley and Jeff Kent each had two hits for the Dodgers, who lost for the second time in their past five games.
