BEREA, Ohio, Aug. 18 (UPI) -- The Cleveland Browns Thursday signed veteran cornerback Ray Mickens to a one-year contract.
Financial terms of the deal were not released.
Mickens, 32, had spent his entire career with the New York Jets before he was released last week. He fills a void in the Cleveland secondary created after cornerback Michael Lehan was hurt in practice Wednesday with a pulled hamstring.
Lehan, who also missed six games last season because of hamstring and calf-muscle injuries, was sidelined for four games by the same problems in the 2003-04 season.
Mickens, a nine-year veteran, missed all last season because of torn right knee ligament suffered in the pre-season. With the Browns, he will be reunited with new head coach Romeo Crennel.
They spent time together from 1997-99 when Crennel was the defensive coordinator in New York.
In his career, Mickens has 350 total tackles, 11 interceptions and six sacks in 126 games.
