MLB: Seattle 11, Kansas City 3

SEATTLE, Aug. 16 (UPI) -- The Seattle Mariners handed the Kansas City Royals their 16th consecutive defeat with an 11-3 rout at Safeco Field.

Rookie Felix Hernandez struck out 11 over eight innings in his major league start. The 19-year-old Venezuelan right-hander yielded a single hit through the first six innings and just two more along with one walk over the remainder of his stint.

Ichiro Suzuki, Richie Sexson and Mike Morse each belted two-run homers, and Willie Bloomquist tripled in a pair of runs.

For the Royals, Terrence Long hit a two-run double in the ninth inning.
