WNBA: New York 73, Charlotte 65

NEW YORK, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Becky Hammon scored 19 points Sunday night as New York escaped with a 73-65 win over Charlotte.

The Liberty trailed the contest by 10 points near the mid-way point in the second half, but was able to avoid an embarrassing loss. The dismal Sting, which also lost to New York on Saturday night, sank to 4-25 overall with their third straight setback.

Tammy Sutton-Brown had 19 points for the Sting.

Charlotte is 1-9 in its last 10 games. New York rose to 16-13.
