COLUMBUS, Ohio, Aug. 10 (UPI) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets continued to be aggressive during the free-agent signing period, inking center Jan Hrdina to a one-year contract Wednesday.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Hrdina split the 2003-04 season between Phoenix and New Jersey and had 12 goals and 21 assists in a combined 68 games. The Czech native recorded at least 42 points in each of his first five NHL seasons prior to his most recent campaign.
"Jan is a quality, two-way center who brings versatility on the ice and great character in the dressing room to our organization," said team president and general manager Doug MacLean. "I think he will be a great compliment to our group of forwards."
The signing is the latest in what has been an active and fruitful off-season for the Blue Jackets, who also added defensemen Adam Foote and Bryan Berard and re-signed star center Rick Nash to a five-year contract.
Hrdina broke into the NHL in 1997 with Pittsburgh and established career-highs of 24 goals and 57 points as a member of the Penguins in 2001-02. The 29-year-old has 91 goals and 173 assists in 438 career games.
