MCKEES ROCKS, Pa., Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Hall of Fame football player Dick Butkus played the good cop in his first day as coach of the Montour Spartans in the new TV reality show "Bound for Glory."
Butkus, a legendary tough guy with the Chicago Bears, said he will learn as much from real head coach Lou Cerro and the McKees Rocks, Pa., high school players as they do from him in the ESPN show that debuts Sept. 20.
"Maybe these kids don't know who I am, but ... they'll probably find out from somebody that I've been where they are before and maybe I'm telling them to do something right," Butkus told the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.
"I think with kids it gets old, the screaming," Butkus told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It's best to keep it for when you really mean it."
While others raised their voices during Montour's practice Monday, Butkus took the low-key, one-on-one approach.
"Well," Cerro said and chucked, "it's early yet."
