NBA All-Star 2007 set for Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Las Vegas will be the host city for NBA All-Star 2007, NBA Commissioner David Stern announced Friday.

It will be the first time the National Basketball Association has held its All-Star contest in a city that does not have an NBA franchise. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority will serve as the host organization for the event.

NBA All-Star is a week-long series of events that includes the Rookie Challenge, shooting and slam-dunk competitions and the traditional game featuring the best of the league's Eastern and Western conferences. The game is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007 at the Thomas & Mack Center -- to be televised on TNT in the United States, and to a global TV audience in more than 200 countries.
