ALLEN PARK, Mich., Aug. 3 (UPI) -- Detroit Lions President and CEO Matt Millen has received a five-year extension, effective after the 2005 season.
Team owner William Clay Ford made the announcement Wednesday. The new contract will keep Millen with the team through 2010.
Millen was appointed in January 2001. During his tenure, Detroit has hired Steve Mariucci as coach, and brought in lots of talent -- including quarterback Joey Harrington and wide receivers Charles Rogers, Roy Williams and Mike Williams. They also have signed free agents cornerback Dre' Bly and quarterback Jeff Garcia.
However, Detroit's record is just 16-48 in Millen's four seasons. The Lions were 6-10 in 2004 after finishing last in the NFC North Division three years in a row.
Millen played in the NFL for 12 years the Oakland Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins. He retired with four Super Bowl rings.
