MLB: Seattle 9, Detroit 3

SEATTLE, July 28 (UPI) -- Richie Sexson backed Jamie Moyer's strong pitching with a pair of home runs as Seattle beat Detroit 9-3 Wednesday night at Seattle.

Sexson drove in three runs and scored four while Moyer (9-3) posted his second straight win with seven shutout innings before allowing two runs in the eighth. The Mariners jumped out to an 8-0 lead through four innings.

Detroit activated Placido Polanco off the 15-day disabled list prior to the game and the infielder went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Rondell White had two hits and knocked in a run for the Tigers, losers of three of their last five games.

Tigers starter Mike Maroth (8-11) surrendered six runs -- three earned -- on five hits and four walks in just 1 2/3 innings.
