The signing came one day before the team begins training camp.

Nugent was the 2004 Lou Groza Award winner and a consensus all-America first team selection during his senior season at Ohio State. He was chosen by the Jets in the second round with the 47th overall pick and is expected to take over the kicking duties for Doug Brien, who was released this off-season.

Nugent, 23, made 24-of-27 field goal attempts for the Buckeyes last season, including five from 50 yards or more.

He holds or shares 22 school records, including most points by a kicker in a career, and was the first placekicker in OSU history to be named MVP in his final season.

The Jets still have five draft choices unsigned.
