NEW YORK, July 27 (UPI) -- Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson combined for 38 points Wednesday night as Houston edged the New York Liberty, 71-69.
Swoopes had 21 and Thompson 17. Janeth Arcain added 13 and Michelle Snow 10 for the Rockets, who overcame a 16-point first-half deficit and out-scored New York, 41-26, in the second stanza.

Becky Hammon led the Liberty with 15 points. Anne Wauters added 11.
New York fell to 11-10 while Houston improved to 14-9 with its second straight win.
