Hansen wins gold in 100-meter breaststroke

MONTREAL, July 26 (UPI) -- Brendan Hansen won the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the World Swimming Championships Monday, with Kosuke Kitajima taking silver.

Hanson, at 59.37 seconds, was just under his world record of 59.30, but still posted the second fastest time in history.

Kitajima, an Olympic gold medallist and former world record holder, came in at 59.53 seconds, the third fastest time on record. He was saluted in Japan for breaking the national record of 59.71 seconds.
