HOCKENHEIM, July 24 (UPI) -- Fernando Alonso won Sunday's German Grand Prix at the Hockenheim Ring in Germany. His No. 5 Renault crossed the finish line 22.569 seconds ahead of runner-up Juan Montoya. Jenson Button finished third.
Giancarlo Fisichella, Michael Schumacher, Ralf Schumacher, David Coulthard and Felipe Massa finished 4-8, the other points-scoring positions.
It was Alonso's sixth victory of the season and seventh of his Formula One career. The series points leader now has a 36-point lead over the race's pole-winner, Kimi Raikkonen (87-51). Michael Schumacher (47) is third and Montoya (34) advanced to fourth.
The next race is next Sunday at Budapest, Hungary.
