Ken Griffey Jr. reported on trading block

CINCINNATI, July 21 (UPI) -- Ken Griffey Jr. is hot on the trade rumor mill but if the Cincinnati Reds are serious about dealing him, they must talk to the veteran first.

As a player with five years with one team and 10 years overall in the big leagues, Griffey can reject any deal.

"I haven't heard anything," Griffey told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "I don't remember the last time I saw (Reds general manager) Dan O'Brien."

Griffey is signed through 2008 with an option for 2009 at $12.5 million a year with $6.5 million deferred.

ESPN.com's Jayson Stark listed Griffey No. 4 on his "Who's Hot" trade talk list. Stark reported that two clubs that talked with the Reds last week about Austin Kearns were told Cincinnati is looking for a taker for Griffey.

Griffey's agent, Brian Goldberg, said O'Brien hasn't contacted him about a possible trade. O'Brien was not available for comment, the newspaper said.
