TALLAHASSEE, Fla., July 13 (UPI) -- A torn ligament in his left knee will sideline Florida State cornerback Antonio Cromartie for the 2005 season.
He suffered the injury during a workout Tuesday evening.
The 6-foot-3 inch, 197-pound junior will undergo surgery next week. Cromartie was projected to be a first team all-American in the 2005 season after he tied for second last year in the ACC with four interceptions and was responsible for two defensive touchdowns.
"Of course I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to play this year," Cromartie said on the school's Web site. "I think we have a very good team that is capable of winning a national championship and I wanted to help be a part of that. We can still get to the Rose Bowl because there are some very good young players in the secondary. They just have to step up now."
His loss will mean more playing time for freshmen Tony Carter, Trevor Ford and Joe Manning.
