MLB: Texas 18, LA Angels 5

ARLINGTON, Texas, June 30 (UPI) -- Kevin Mench hit three home runs and drove in five runs Thursday to help power Texas to an 18-5 rout of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The win gave the Rangers a split of the four-game series.

Mark Teixeira hit a pair of two-run homers and David Dellucci, Alfonso Soriano, who had three hits, and Hank Blalock each homered once as Texas tied a franchise record with eight home runs in a single contest.

Winning pitcher Chris Young improved to 8-4. He gave up three runs and five hits in five innings with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Angels loser Ervin Santana sank to 2-3. He was touched for seven hits and seven runs in four innings with four walks and four strikeouts.

Vladimir Guerrero and Garret Anderson each homered for the Angels, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped on Wednesday. They still have a 6 1/2-game lead over Texas in the American League West.
