Blockbuster women's semis on tap Thursday

LONDON, June 29 (UPI) -- The 2005 women's Wimbledon finalists will be determined Thursday by two high-profile semifinal matches.

American Lindsay Davenport meets Frenchwoman Amelie Mauresmo and Russian Maria Sharapova encounters American Venus Williams in a pair of blockbuster semis.

The top-seeded and world No. 1 Davenport will meet the third-seeded Mauresmo for a 12th time, with the American holding an 8-3 lead in their lifetime series.

Davenport has won their last five matches, but in their lone Grand Slam meeting in 1999, the French star prevailed in the semifinals at the Australian Open.
