Amateurs lead at Cherry Hills

CHERRY HILLS VILLAGE, Colo., June 25 (UPI) -- Two teen-aged amateurs are at top of the leader-board after 54 holes of the Women's U.S. Open golf tournament at Cherry Hills Village, Colo.

Michelle Wie, 15, and Morgan Pressel, 17, are tied with reigning Women's British Open champion Karen Stupples at 1-one-over-par 214.

Tournament favorite Annika Sorenstam -- who is trying to become the first woman ever to record a Grand Slam with victories in all four of the major events in a single year -- is tied for 16th at 6-over-par 219 after a 2-over 73.

Wie shot a 1-over 72 Saturday. Pressel shot a one-under 70, and Stupples fired a 2-under 69.

Eighteen-year-old Paula Creamer, who won the Sybase Classic earlier this year, shot a one-over 72 and is tied for fourth with Birdie Kim (69) and Young Jo (70). That group is tied at plus-2.
