Lee Mazzilli suspended by baseball

NEW YORK, June 24 (UPI) -- Baltimore Manager Lee Mazzilli was suspended Friday for two games for his ejection in a game against Colorado on June 19.

Mazzilli was also fined an undisclosed amount. After arguing with umpires on a long foul ball by Chris Gomez -- which he thought should have been called a home run -- Mazzilli threw a tray of bubble gum onto the field.

The suspension, announced before Friday night's contest at Atlanta, will not take effect until Mazzilli has an opportunity to discuss the incident with baseball officials in New York.

The suspension was announced by Bob Watson, baseball's vice president of on-field operations.
