CINCINNATI, June 23 (UPI) -- Cincinnati Reds outfielder Kenny Kelly underwent arthroscopic left knee surgery on Thursday.

The procedure was to repair the torn meniscus (small cartilage) in the knee.

The team said on its Web site that it took 30 minutes and was performed by team medical director Dr. Timothy Kremchek. Kelly, who suffered the injury in Tuesday night's game against St. Louis, is expected to begin running again in approximately three weeks.

The 6-foot-3 inch Kelly, who was a second round draft pick by Cincinnati in 1997, is batting .375 in a back-up role. He had expected to see an increase in playing time with the recent surprise demotion of Austin Kearns to Triple-A Louisville.
