Following a bogey at No. 9, Furyk recovered for birdies at 10 and 11, made par at 12 and another birdie at 13. The former U.S. Open winner closed with birdies at 17 and 18 to build his lead to three shots.

After the round, an angry Singh, complained about slow play.

"It's ridiculous, I mean, you play a round of golf in five hours and wait on every shot," said Singh. "Every shot out there on the front nine, you had to wait. You get fed up with it. I don't know if anyone ever withdrew after nine holes for slow play."

Patrick Sheehan, J.L. Lewis, John Senden, Brian Gay and Joe Ogilvie tied for eighth at two-under-par 69.
