BUENOS AIRES, June 23 (UPI) -- Argentine soccer legend Diego Maradona has been offered an executive position with his old team Boca Juniors.
Maradona reportedly will assume a role as team vice president, La Nacion newspaper reported Thursday.
Boca Juniors officials appear confident in Maradona's health after he underwent underwent stomach stapling surgery earlier this year to help him lose weight. Maradona suffered from severe obesity and other illnesses caused by cocaine dependency.
However, since the surgery, he has lost more than 70 pounds and has made progress in a rehabilitation program, his personal physician said.
Maradona spent much the last few years at a drug treatment clinic in Cuba.
