PHOENIX, June 19 (UPI) -- Jake Westbrook pitched eight strong innings Sunday as the Cleveland Indians won their ninth straight contest, beating the Arizona Diamondbacks, 3-2.
Westbrook improved his record to 4-9 and avoided becoming baseball's first 10-game loser of the season. He yielded two runs and five hits with no walks and five strikeouts.

Travis Hafner and Victor Martinez both drove in a run for the Indians, who are on their longest winning string since the club captured 10 straight games from April 3-13, 2002.
Loser Shawn Estes sank to 5-5. He was charged with three runs and nine hits in eight innings with two walks and four strikeouts.
Jose Cruz Jr. hit a solo homer for the Diamondbacks, who have dropped four straight games.
