MLB: San Diego 3, Cleveland 2

SAN DIEGO, June 9 (UPI) -- Adam Eaton allowed six hits over seven shutout innings Thursday and San Diego held on to edge Cleveland, 3-2.

Eaton (9-1) won for the ninth straight game while helping the Padres end a four-game losing streak. He struck out nine and walked one.

Brian Giles had a solo homer for the Padres, who managed just three hits in the victory.

Jake Westbrook (2-9) suffered the loss. Only one of the three runs he allowed was earned as the Indians had a three-game winning streak snapped. San Diego closer Trevor Hoffman allowed a run in the ninth, but picked up his 17th save.
