White kicked off Georgia football team

ATHENS, Ga., June 6 (UPI) -- University of Georgia linebacker Derrick White has been kicked off the football team by head coach Mark Richt after an arrest for drunken driving.

White was arrested Friday and charged with driving under the influence near his hometown of Union City, Ga.

White, who would have been a senior this fall, already had been suspended for the Bulldogs' first two games for being involved in May 10 fight at a downtown bar in Athens.

"I spoke to Derrick Saturday and have made the decision to dismiss him from the team," said Richt. "The decision was based not only on the incident which occurred Friday, but also on a past history of behavior that does not represent our program in the proper way."

White started seven games for the Bulldogs last season and had 93 tackles and 1 1/2 sacks in 36 games over three seasons at Georgia.
