DAVIE, Fla., June 6 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins Monday named Randy Mueller general manager, succeeding Rick Speilman, who resigned Friday.

Speilman had been engaged in a power struggle with new coach Nick Saban.

Mueller is a 19-year NFL front office veteran. His most recent job was as general manager of football operations with the New Orleans Saints in 2000-01.

"We want to welcome Randy Mueller to the Dolphins organization," Saban said on the Dolphins' Web site. "He is respected throughout the league and has a strong background in player personnel. He will help us in our continuing efforts to build a team that will not only achieve success, but sustain it on a long-term basis."

In his two years with New Orleans, the Saints captured the NFC West title and recorded the lone playoff victory in franchise history. In 2000, Mueller was named NFL Executive of the Year by the Sporting News. For the past three years, he worked as a pro football analyst for ESPN.
