PITTSBURGH, June 4 (UPI) -- Julio Franco came through with an RBI double in the ninth inning Saturday to give the Atlanta Braves a 1-0 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Chris Reitsma retired three straight batters on groundouts to record his third save and preserve Atlanta's sixth shutout of the season.
The Braves survived two bases-loaded situations. Rookie starter Kyle Davies escaped the first one when he retired Pirates first baseman Daryle Ward on a double play to end the sixth inning. Davies was relieved by John Foster with two outs in the eighth inning and Ward grounded into the third out.
In his 7 2/3 innings, Davies yielded six hits and four walks in 7 2/3 innings. Foster (1-0) got the win. Pittsburgh starter Mark Redman yielded just three hits and a walk in eight innings. Gonzalez (0-2) suffered the loss.
