MLB: Washington 8, Atlanta 6

WASHINGTON, June 2 (UPI) -- A three-run double by Gary Bennett finished off a five-run eighth inning Thursday night as Washington rallied to an 8-6 victory over Atlanta.

Bennett added a home run and closed the night with five RBI. It was Washington's third win in the four-game series.

Atlanta took the lead in the top of the eighth on a two-run single by Johnny Estrada, but the Braves went on to lose for the fifth time in seven games.

Washington had scored twice in the eighth to close within a run when Kevin Gryboski came in to relieve. He walked Marlon Byrd to load the bases and Bennett then drove one into right-center for the bases-clearing double. The win went to Hector Carrasco (2-1), who recorded the final out in the top of the eighth.
