WASHINGTON, May 31 (UPI) -- A two-run double by Nick Johnson highlighted a three-run seventh Tuesday night as Washington nipped Atlanta, 5-4.
Washington's John Patterson, coming off the disabled list after suffering back spasms, allowed a run on one hit over five innings. But the win went to Luis Ayala (3-3), who pitched one inning of scoreless relief.

The Nationals won their third straight, overcoming a 3-2 deficit with their three-run seventh.
Atlanta starter Mike Hampton was also coming off the disabled list and gave up five hits over four innings. Roman Colon (0-2) coughed up the lead in the seventh as the Braves lost for the fourth time in five games.
