MLB: Houston 4, Cincinnati 3

HOUSTON, May 31 (UPI) -- Lance Berkman doubled in the go-ahead run in the fifth Tuesday night and Houston fought off Cincinnati, 4-3.

The Astros ended the month of May by winning three out of four.

Brandon Backe (5-3) got the win by allowing three runs on nine hits over 6 2/3 innings. The Astros handed Cincinnati its fifth road loss in six games.

Matt Belisle was charged with the loss, surrendering three runs on six hits in five innings. With the Reds owning a 3-2 lead going into the fifth, Houston picked up a run on consecutive singles by Backe, Willy Taveras and Todd Self. Berkman then doubled home Taveras to put the Astros in front.
