Mike Reid wins Senior PGA in playoff

LIGONIER, Pa., May 29 (UPI) -- Mike Reid eagled the 72nd hole to reach a playoff and birdied the first extra hole Sunday to beat Dana Quigley and Jerry Pate in the Senior PGA Championship.

Reid trailed playing partner Pate by three with only the par-five 18th at Laurel Valley left. Reid put his second shot 25 feet from the hole to set up the eagle.

Pate, who had a one-shot lead over Quigley, laid up short of the pond He wedged his third shot 30 feet past the hole, lagged his birdie try three feet short, then missed thr par putt that would have made him the winner in regulation.

At the playoff hole, Pate hooked his tee shot into the left rough while Quigley and Reid were in the center of the fairway.

Pate layed up again while Reid hit his second to 25 feet. Quigley's approach went in the water. Pate's third shot was to seven feet.

Reid's bid for back-to-back eagles came up short, but he tapped in for the birdie. Pate again missed his birdie putt.
