Weibring leads Bruno's Memorial Classic

HOOVER, Ala., May 21 (UPI) -- D.A. Weibring shot a 7-under 65 in Saturday's second round of the seniors Bruno's Memorial Classic for a 12-under 132 and a one-stroke lead.

Tom Kite. who matched the course record with a 9-under 63, is tied for second with first-round leader Dana Quigley at 11-under 133. Lonnie Nielson is one stroke further back.

The first round was completed Saturday morning after being suspended Friday due to lightning and heavy rain.

Weibring, who will turn 52 Wednesday, had four straight birdies on the back nine.

Just six of the previous 13 second-round leaders have gone on to win the title. If he win, Weibring would be the 14th different winner in the events 14 years.

Quigley, 58, is making his 272nd consecutive start.

Mark James, Curtis Strange and Tom Jenkins, the 2003 champion here, are tied for fifth place at 137.
