Three-way tie on Champions Tour

MILTON, Fla., May 13 (UPI) -- Vicente Fernandez, Morris Hatalsky and Jim Thorpe all had a 7-under 63 Friday that put them into a share of the lead at the Blue Angels Classic.

Bruce Lietzke, Dick Mast and Hajime Meshiai were all a shot behind while those two strokes back included Peter Jacobsen, John Harris and Dave Barr.

Fernandez hit his first shot of the day into the water, but he saved par at the opening hole and rolled from there.

Hatalsky birdied six straight holes beginning at the 11th, a stretch that missed the Champions Tour record by one. He equaled his lowest round ever on the over-50 circuit.

Thorpe is trying for his second straight victory, having won the FedEx-Kinko Classic in Austin two weeks ago.
