NBA: Dallas 108, Phoenix 106

PHOENIX, May 11 (UPI) -- Dirk Nowitzki made a turnaround jumper with six seconds remaining Wednesday night, giving Dallas a series-tying 108-106 victory over Phoenix.

Michael Finley led Dallas with 31 points, 20 of which came after halftime, as the Mavericks knotted the best-of-seven conference semifinal series at 1-1. Dallas will host Game 3 on Friday.

After a one-sided loss in Game 1, Nowitzki criticized teammate Eric Dampier for allowing the Suns' Amare Stoudemire to score 40 points.

Although Stoudemire produced 30 points Wednesday night, he managed only nine in the first half as the Mavericks gained confidence. Dampier countered with 15 while Nowitzki had 23.

The Mavericks built a 12-point lead after one period and led by eight at halftime. Phoenix quickly made up that deficit in the third period, however, and the game was tight the rest of the way.

Dallas had a four-point lead and the ball inside a minute to play, but the Mavericks made two turnovers and Phoenix tied it with 31 seconds left on a jumper by Steve Nash.

That set up Nowitzki's winning basket, after which Quentin Richardson missed a three-point try at the buzzer.
