NEW YORK, May 6 (UPI) -- Marco Scutaro scored the go-ahead run in the 10th inning as Oakland benefited from a New York defensive collapse to defeat the Yankees, 6-3.
New York committed three errors in the 10th inning, leading to three runs and the Yankees fourth straight loss.
The Yankees have lost eight of 10. Their 11-19 start is their worst in 39 years. Oakland had lost its previous three games.
Mariano Rivera (2-2) walked Scutaro to start the 10th and hit Jason Kendall with a pitch. Eric Chavez then reached on a one-out, infield single to load the bases.
Scott Hatteberg next hit a ground ball to first baseman Tino Martinez, who bobbled it and then threw wildly -- allowing Scutaro and Kendall to score.
Chavez was thrown out at the plate on a grounder by Charles Thomas, but Erubiel Durazo's grounder was booted by Alex Rodriguez. Rivera then walked Keith Ginter with the bases loaded for the third run of the inning.
