Spanish golfer leads Italian Open

MILAN, Italy, May 5 (UPI) -- Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Gastano was the clubhouse leader Thursday in the unfinished first round of the Italian Open.

Thunderstorms forced suspension of play with many golfers still on the course.

The 24-year-old Fernandez-Gastano shot a 6-under-par 66. Simon Khan, Gary Murphy, Sebastian Fernandez and Bradley Dredge were at 67.

Defending champion Graeme McDowell was in a group at 70.
