WILLIAMSBURG, Va., May 5 (UPI) -- Annika Sorenstam's bid for a record sixth straight LPGA Tour win took a major hit Thursday when she began the Michelob Ultra Open with a 5-over 76.
Sorenstam was tied for 107th place and trailed first-round co-leaders Silvia Cavalleri and Catrin Nilsmark by nine shots.
This is only the fourth tour event of the year for Sorenstam and she won her first three appearances. She also won her final two tournaments in 2004. The five straight wins equaled the all-time tour record first set by Nancy Lopez.
Sorenstam played the first seven holes of the Kingsmill Resort course in even par Thursday and then bogeyed four of the next six.
