Cleveland got to Gil Meche (1-1) in a hurry with Coco Crisp and Alex Cora opening the game with singles.
Travis Hafner and Casey Blake drove in a run each with base hits, bringing up Belliard.
He drove one down the right field line for his home run that staked Sabathia to an instant five-run cushion.
David Riske worked the final two innings as he combined with Sabathia in limiting the Mariners to six hits.
