SEATTLE, April 22 (UPI) -- Ronnie Belliard highlighted a five-run first inning with a three-run homer Friday night and Cleveland went on to defeat Seattle, 6-1.

C.C. Sabathia (1-0) went seven innings to get the victory.

Cleveland got to Gil Meche (1-1) in a hurry with Coco Crisp and Alex Cora opening the game with singles.

Travis Hafner and Casey Blake drove in a run each with base hits, bringing up Belliard.

He drove one down the right field line for his home run that staked Sabathia to an instant five-run cushion.

David Riske worked the final two innings as he combined with Sabathia in limiting the Mariners to six hits.
