Schilling underwent ankle surgery during the winter and began the season on the disabled list. But he was activated prior to Wednesday night's game.

After getting off to a solid start, Schilling began to fade and eventually gave up five runs on nine hits in 5 2/3 innings.

Jaret Wright (1-1) picked up his first victory in a New York uniform. He gave up two runs over five innings, twice escaping trouble.

The save went to Mariano Rivera.
