MLB: LA Dodgers 8, Arizona 7

PHOENIX, April 8 (UPI) -- Jose Valentin's two-run homer finished off a four-run ninth inning Friday night that rallied the Los Angeles Dodgers to an 8-7 win over Arizona.

The Diamondbacks had come back from a 4-1 deficit to take a 7-4 lead -- thanks chiefly to a two-run homer by Jose Cruz in the seventh and a three-run blast by Troy Glaus in the eighth.

But Brandon Lyon coughed up the lead in the top of the ninth. All of the ninth-inning runs were unearned courtesy of a fielding error by shortstop Craig Counsell.

The error allowed Antonio Perez to reach and he scored on Ricky Ledee's double. Cesar Izturis then singled home Ledee and Izturis scored in front of Valentin's homer.
