DETROIT, April 6 (UPI) -- Mike Sweeney drove in two runs Wednesday to help Kansas City beat the Detroit Tigers 7-2.
Winning pitcher Runelvys Hernandez (1-0), who missed the 2004 season because of elbow surgery, surrendered one run on five hits, with three walks and three strikeouts in seven innings.

Tony Graffanino went 4-for-4 with a pair of runs scored for the Royals.
Mike Maroth (0-1) suffered the loss after allowing five runs on 11 hits in 3 2/3 innings.
