NBA: Minnesota 105, LA Lakers 96

LOS ANGELES, April 1 (UPI) -- Minnesota led at the half and stayed ahead the rest of the way for its fifth straight win Thursday, a 105-96 decision over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Keven Garnett scored 23 points for the Timberwolves. Six other players also hit double figures, including Trenton Hassell with 16 and Sam Cassell and Wally Szczerbiak with 15 each.

Minnesota now trails Memphis and Houston by two games for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Division.

Kobe Bryant led the Lakers with 26 points.
