EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J., March 30 (UPI) -- Vince Carter scored 31 points Wednesday night, carrying New Jersey to a 95-78 whipping of the Los Angeles Clippers.

The Nets began the night 2 1/2 games out of the eighth and final post-season position in the Eastern Conference.

Nenad Krstic added 17 for the Nets and Brian Scalabrine had 12 as New Jersey won its fifth in seven games.

Corey Maggette led the Clippers with 17.

New Jersey owned a 14-point halftime lead and the Clippers came no closer than nine in the second half.
