RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif., March 24 (UPI) -- Rosie Jones shared the lead after one round of the Nabisco Championship Thursday while Annika Sorenstam was close behind in her quest for five in a row.
In the first major championship of the LPGA season, Jones was tied for the top spot at 3-under 69 with Karen Stupples and Mi Hyun Kim.
Sorenstam has won her last four tournaments and is trying to equal the longest winning streak in tour history, established by Nancy Lopez.
Sorenstam fired a 2-under 70 over the Mission Hills Country Club Dinah Shore Course to share fourth place with Carin Koch, Juli Inkster and amateurs Michelle Wie and Morgan Pressel.
Jones is seeking her first major champioinship.
"Fortunately I didn't make any bogeys today, but it's the type of golf course you know that you're going to make them, so you want to take advantage of every birdie that you can," Jones said.
