COL BKB: Mississippi St. 93, Stanford 70

CHARLOTTE, N.C., March 19 (UPI) -- A big game from Lawrence Roberts Friday night sent Mississippi State into the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 93-70 win over Stanford.

Roberts scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds as the Bulldogs, a No. 9 seed, pulled off the second-biggest victory of the tournament's first round.

Mississippi State will play top-seeded Duke in the second round of the Austin region on Sunday.

Winsome Frazier hit six of eight three-point shots for the Bulldogs and scored 20 points. Mississippi State, which received an at-large bid after finishing third in its division and being ousted in the quarterfinals of the SEC Tournament, improved to 23-10.

Stanford (18-13) was led by Chris Hernandez with 17 points.
